Welcome! The Fazenda União (União Plantation) is in the municipality of Rio das Flores (which in the colonial period was part of the municipality of Valença), in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The plantation is located in the Valley of the Coffee Cycle Barons and offers the luxury and elegance of the Second Brazilian Empire. Dated to 1836, the plantation belonged to Captain Bernardo Vieira Machado and to the Viscount of Rio Preto. Today it belongs to Rosalina and João of the Monteiro dos Reis family. The plantation has been restored and has 10 available suites inside the main house. The current owners reside in the house and host their guests there. Services include: scheduled visit with local guide, room service and laundry, TV room, gourmet restaurant (with period-appropriate food), bar, swimming pool, fishing, and horseback riding. The property is professionally landscaped to preserve the centenary trees and the gardening preferences of the colonial period. The furniture in the house was carefully selected; every piece is from the colonial era. The furniture was acquired from auctions, antique shops, and countless searches in the valley region. With years of work, the entire interior of the house received architectural and artistic treatments to restore the colonial period atmosphere.
