Welcome to QUINTA DE LA ROSA, a wine growing estate with vacation homes. There is plenty to do in the Douro, one of the most unspoilt places in Europe with stunning countryside and a UNESCO World Heritage area. Wine tastings and tours of QUINTA LA ROSA and other Quintas. Helping with the harvest in September/October. Boat trips on the River Douro: we provide canoes and there are boats to hire in nearby Pinhão. Swimming in the pool, in the Douro, in nearby river pools (water dependent) and lakes. Mountain train trips to Mirandela and Vila Real. Steam train ride along the banks of the Douro every Saturday in high season. Local markets and villages to visit with summer festas. Walking and picnics: detailed itineraries provided and picnics on request. Culture and Castles: Palace of Mateus at Lamego - prehistoric cave paintings at Foz Coa - castles at Penedono and Numão - Roman bridges and sacrificial blood baths. And much more… Gastronomy: delicious simple food - one Michelin star restaurant at Amarante. Day trips to Porto (two hours by road or by train) and even Lisbon (daily flight at only 50 EUR/person taking one hour). Coarse fishing on the Douro and nearby rivers. Finally, the Douro is in a rain shadow area, so holidays are unlikely to be ruined by rain, but we cannot guarantee anything – it can rain in August!
