In our hotel ‘Zum Forsthaus’ in Altenau in the Oberharz, hospitality has been a top priority for over 48 years!

The quiet yet central location (10 minutes' walk to the centre) makes it the ideal destination for those seeking relaxation. You can set off on the most beautiful hikes and mountain bike trails in the Harz directly from the hotel. Hikers on the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg can also find accommodation here for one night. All rooms in this category are equipped with a specialised television. Some with comfort upholstered beds with motorised slatted frames and reversible mattresses, with one hard and one medium side. Separate shower and WC in all rooms.

Two holiday flats with large balcony

Feel at home during your holiday in the Harz Mountains. The two comfortably furnished holiday flats in the Hotel Zum Forsthaus will become your new home in the Upper Harz. The non-smoking flats are classified with 3 stars (according to DTV German Tourism Association) and comfortably furnished. The 45 square metre flats each have a bedroom and living room, kitchenette or kitchen, shower, WC and balcony. Bed linen and towels are of course provided.

Active holidays in the Upper Harz: Harzer Hexenstieg, DSV Nordic walking trails, Harz mountain bike arena, winter sports facilities and much more can be reached directly from our hotel. The ski area with practice slope ‘Skiwiese Rose’ is right on our doorstep, the entrance to the cross-country ski trail ‘Rose’ is only 20 metres away.

The ‘Heißer Brocken’ thermal baths can be reached on foot in 8 minutes, as can the Sperberhaier Dammgraben, part of the Harz Witches' Trail, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Upper Harz Water Management. Altenau in the Oberharz, situated in the middle of the magical mountain world, offers a rich variety of sights and excursion destinations in the surrounding area. We would like to give you some suggestions for excursions during your Harz holiday. Let yourself be inspired by the variety of experiences in the region - and then visit us for a short holiday.
