Welcome to the Hotel Waldhaus Wittgenthal in Breitungen!

Our family-run Waldhaus Wittgenthal was built in 1920 as a restaurant for day-trippers with a licence to provide accommodation. Today, it has been expanded to a capacity of 27 rooms with modern standards. The original character and charm of the house has been preserved. Our hotel has 24 double rooms and 3 single rooms. Extra beds are available in 8 rooms. All rooms are equipped with shower/toilet.

Since the early years, the Waldhaus Wittgenthal has been very popular with our excursion guests. With a total of 170 seats in 4 dining rooms, cosy rooms are available for family celebrations, company parties, travel groups or training courses. In summer, two outdoor terraces also invite you to linger.

As a participant in the Thuringian Rhön gastronomic project, the ‘Rhöner Genusstour’ (Rhöner Delight Tour), of the regional Rhön working group, we rely on regionally produced, controlled products and predominantly traditional Rhön cuisine. In line with the ‘slow food’ philosophy, all our dishes are freshly and gently prepared. We use fresh beef, pork and lamb, as well as fish from the Rhön Biosphere Reserve and game from local hunting grounds, for our specialities. We have been awarded the seal of quality of the Rhön umbrella organisation and three silver thistles. This is a Rhön award for special quality.

We offer catering for travel and hiking groups, catering for family, company and club celebrations, as well as the delivery of cold or warm buffets outside the home. From rustic to festive - according to your wishes! We are happy to advise you! Separate rooms are available for conferences, seminars and training courses. We take care of all the necessary preparations. So you just have to concentrate on your event to make it a success! Our bowling alley is a modern, fully automatic facility with two plastic lanes. The separate guest room has about 60 seats, its own bar and sanitary facilities. A dartboard is also available for entertainment.

The central location and the convenient access to the motorway network make excursions easy. Whether it's a visit to the town of Breitungen, first mentioned in 933, with its basilica and castle, or to the nearby towns of Schmalkalden, Eisenach and Meiningen, with a variety of exhibitions, museums, concerts and events. The local recreation area ‘am Kiessee’ offers fun for the whole family. On the treetop walk, you can ‘reach for the sky in the jungle’. The Merkers Adventure Mine is also always worth a visit! The Waldhaus Wittgenthal is a popular destination for motorcyclists. The experience of the wonderfully winding roads in the Rhön and in the Thuringian Forest, as well as many attractive excursion destinations, offer pure motorcycling pleasure, from choppers and cruisers to tourers and sports bikes! We will be happy to help you plan your tour. Various motorcycle clubs are welcome to visit us for trips lasting several days.
